Refund of purchase

Tim,

I just want to know if I have a case here.

I would like to obtain a refund for the purchase of 2 jackets and am not interested in a store credit. Here are the details of what happened. I purchased 2 jackets @ 75.00 each on 7/24/02. Today, 7/26/02, I returned to the store to ask for a refund.

These jackets were on sale however, I did not notice their sign over the jacket rack indicating "final sale". At the bottom of my receipt it says "Return Policy: 7 day grace period. Store credit only after 7 days and up to 30 days." At the top of the receipt is says "No refunds on sale items. NO EXCEPTIONS!!" Yes, they did have a sign near the register, no refunds on sale items. Once again I screwed up and did not notice this sign.

Do I have a case at all under these circumstances?

Is there any kind of 72 hour buying policy? I thought I had heard about one. I am in Connecticut. Any info. you might lend is appreciated.

Thanks.

J.C.

The 72 hour rule that you refer to does not apply in your case. For more information see how to cancel a sale.

American Express Gold and Platinum cards can get your money back with some restrictions, up to ninety days from date of sale. If you purchased with one of these cards contact them, if not, I believe you are out of luck.

Your best bet is to go to the store manager and ask them to issue store credit and be very nice.

I know that this is not what you want but I can't think of an alternative.

One final point. Always ask what the store policy is before making a purchase.

Tim
