Mirowave Oven
Can Your Microwave Oven
Destroy Your
Credit
by
Tim Duffy
No this has nothing to do with whether you pay your bills on time or not, and your microwave will not affect your credit report.

However your microwave can prevent you from being able to use your credit card!

How you ask? Your microwave oven uses a device called a Magnetron. Which creates a field of magnetic energy so placing a wallet or purse on top of a microwave oven and then cooking a TV dinner, or warming something up. There is a high degree of likely hood this will take the information off the magnetic strip on the back of your credit card. Rendering it useless at the checkout counter.

There are several other ways the magnetic strip on the back of your credit card can be deleted. Most people have more than one credit card and if you put two cards back-to-back with the magnetic strips touching you stand a very strong chance of erasing the information on both cards.

Another way the information can be erased from your credit card is at the checkout counter. Some stores use little security stickers to prevent shoplifters these have to be removed at the checkout, they use a small flat surface with a Demagnetizer to remove the Security tags. If you should accidentally happen to place your credit card on this surface it will remove your information.

There is also myth that an airport security checkpoint can effect credit cards. This is simply not true! Airports use X-rays that can't harm your credit cards, Videotapes, Computer disks. Caution with the new scanning equipment being used at airports there are special precautions to take with camera film. The Federal Transportation Security Administration will give you the full details on how to protect your film.
